Leon - Pvt. Dale Bell, 21, brother of Leonard Bell, who earlier was reported missing in action in Germany, was killed in Germany Mar. 13. His wife and son live at Winterset and his mother at Chariton.

Pfc. Dale Bell of Macksburg is Reported Killed in Action

On the darker side of the casualty picture, Mrs. Dale Bell of Macksburg was notified Monday that her husband, Pfc. Dale E. Bell, has been killed in action in German. Private Bell had been listed as missing in action since March 13.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.O. Bell, now of Macksburg. The family moved there recently from near Van Meter.

Macksburg to Hold Gold Start Service

A Gold Start memorial service will be held at the Methodist church here Sunday at 10 a.m. in honor of the service men from this community who gave their lives for their country in the recent conflict.

Those to be honored are Billy J. Stewart, Ben Kiddoo, Lloyd Hudson, Eddie Briggles, Dale Bell, and Edward Butcher.

The Rev. J.A. Englund will have charge of the service, assisted by the American Legion.

Transcription note: Middle name taken from "Honor Roll of Iowans" gathered by the State Archives for the Iowa War Division, available through the State Historical Society of Iowa museum. On this form completed by his wife, Dale Bell's parents are listed as Earl E. Bell and Mrs. Oscer Schwaderer.
