Mrs. Alice Viola Downard, a resident of near Lorimor for the past 14 years, died at the Winterset hospital last Thursday. She was 57 years of age.
Funeral services were held from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset Sunday, in charge of the Rev. J. H. Machlan, pastor of the Methodist church at Peru. Burial was made at Lucas.

Was Resident Of This County 16 Years. Seven Sons, One Daughter Survive
Mrs. Robert L. Downard died Thursday at the Winterset hospital where she had been a patient during the past few weeks. Mrs. Downard, who was 57 years of age, had been in ill health for several years.
She was born in Lucas, Iowa Dec. 28, 1882. They lived in Lucas for a number of years, then moving to Chariton. She grew to womanhood there and was united in marriage to Robert L. Dowanrd, Nov. 26, 1902. They lived in Chariton for a number of years and then moved to Winterset, living here 16 years.
She is survived by her husband; seven sons, one daughter, three sisters and one brother and two grandchildren. They are her husband, R. L. Downard; sons Glen of Chicago; Dwaine, Maywood, Ill.; Loren of Alahambra , Cal.; Harold, Rex and Charles of Winterset; and one daughter also of Winterset. Three sisters, Mrs. Merle Cook of Des Moines; Mrs. Ida Lamb of Woodburn; Mrs. Lucinda Gabrin of Lucas; one brother, Charles Carpenter of Corrington, Ky.; also several nephews, nieces and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 in the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, conducted by the Rev. J. H. Machlan, pastor of the Methodist church in Peru. Burial was made in Lucas, Iowa.
