Former Resident of This County Was Drowned In Ditch Near Boise Home.
Ernest Armstrong, 63, former resident of Madison county, died near his home in Boise Idaho, Tuesday, June 18. Armstrong, who has been in ill health, accidently fell in an irrigation ditch and drowned. His body was bound about two blocks from his home by his son Richard.
He was born in St. Charles in 1877. Upon graduation from high school he served as page in the house of representatives while his uncle, A. L. Wood, was representative from Madison county.
He then accepted a position as clerk in the Winterset post office. In 1901 he went to Washington, D. C., where he was employed on the Census Bureau. He also served on the U. S. Civil Service commission, the War department and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
In 1911, he went to Hailey, Idaho, where he was employed 4 years with the U. S. Land office. In 1924 he accepted a post which he held with the bureau of Internal Revenue until his resignation six years ago.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Richard, and one sister who lives in Boise.
