Page 4, Column 2Former Resident Dies in Creston
Etna Hamner, 68-year-old retired furniture dealer of Creston who formerly lived in Madison county, died Friday at his home, following two years of ill health. Mr. Hamner moved north of Creston in 1915 and then went to Creston in 1921 where he was engaged in furniture business until retiring in 1937.
Mr. Hamner was born near Winterset on April 11, 1871, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Hamner. He was married Sept. 29, 1890 in Des Moines to Letita Frances Bishop who died Dec. 19, 1933. On August 23, 1934 he was married to Mrs. Katie Detrick in St. Joseph, who survives. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. and Elk lodges and was Union county relief administrator.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Walter Smith and Mrs. Roy Berchtold of Benson, Minn.; three sons, Max and Stanley Hamner of Creston and Floyd of Beaumont, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Oma Childers. Three children, Etna, Florence and Inez, died in infancy and Ora Hamner died in 1932.
