A. L. UTTER DIES IN DES MOINES

Heart Attack Fatal To Former Winterset Painter. Funeral Thursday.

The death of Alfred Lafayette Utter, who was a well known man in Winterset prior to his moving to Des Moines in 1905, occurred at the home of his son, Sherman, in Des Moines, May 30, following a heart attack suffered the previous evening.

Mr. Utter who was a paperhanger and painter, was born at Adrian, Michigan, on April 16, 1869 and died at the age of 70 years, one month and 14 days.

At the age of nine years he came to Iowa with his parents in a covered wagon and they settled in Winterset where he spent his boyhood days and attended school. On October 19, 1891, he was married to Ann Jane Faux of Winterset and to this union was born two sons, one of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Utter died on April 28, 1935 and since that time Mr. Utter has made his home with his son Sherman.

Besides his son he leaves a granddaughter, Mrs. George Pease and one sister, Mrs. Anne Baker, all of Des Moines, a number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at Newlin’s funeral home in Des Moines on Thursday, June 1, 2:30, conducted by Rev. Gordon of the Adventist church. Burial was made at Pine Hill cemetery in Des Moines.

The death of Mr. Utter followed only a few days after that of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Utter, who died of a complication of diseases at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines on May 25. Burial was made in Grinnell on May 28.
