MISS BESSIE SPENCER DIED SATURDAY NIGHT AT AGE OF 48 YEARS

Miss Bessie Spencer passed away Saturday night, January 16th at the Oakdale Sanitarium where she had just gone on Tuesday. Miss Spencer who was 48 years old, was born and lived her entire life in Lee township. She has been in ill health for a long time and had been at Oakdale before.

The body was brought to the Fisher funeral home where the funeral was held Tuesday afternoon in charge of the Rev. E. A. Elliott. Burial was made at Booneville.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Lillian Spencer and three brothers, Ira of Lee township, Donald of Des Moines and Ralph of Hollywood, California. Her father and a brother, Kenneth, passed away many years ago.

Bessie Iona Spencer

Bessie Iona Spencer, daughter of Henry and Lillian Spencer, was born in Madison county, June 19, 1888 and died January 16, 1937 aged 48 years.

Her entire life was spent in Lee township except eight months at the Oakdale hospital in 1924. She had been in ill health many years.

Until the last year or two she was an active worker in the Missionary society of the United brother church, also in Farm Bureau work and was leader of the 4-H girls two years.

She leaves her mother Mrs. Lillian Spencer of Booneville, three brothers, Ira of Cummings; Donald, of Des Moines, and Ralph, of Hollywood, California. Her father, brother Kenneth, and sister Marjorie, are deceased leaving her as the only one to be a companion to her mother in the home.

Funeral services were held from Fisher’s funeral home in Van Meter with burial at Booneville January 19.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Blanche Johnston and son Joseph, Galva, Illinois; Ray, Purl, Hobart and Elizabeth Spencer, and Mrs. Edgar Roark, Valley Junction; Mr. and Mrs. Ruby McClure and daughter, Mrs. Homer Young, Miss Lillian Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Don Spencer and daughter Margaret, Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Holcomb and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Walters of Indianola.
