Blanche Saunders

Graveside services for Blanche Lois Saunders of Nevada City will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Nevada City. A reception will follow at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City.

Mrs. Saunders died Thursday, Jan. 19, in Grass Valley. She was 79.

She was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Greenfield, Iowa, to Ernest and Merle Kuhns. She graduated from elementary and high school in Zion, Iowa. She married Don Saunders on March 29, 1943, in Grant City, Mo.

She worked for the School District in Southern California for 15 years and for the Nevada City School District retiring after 15 years of service. She helped her husband, Don run Nevada City Little League and Nevada Union Junior Miner's Football for years. She enjoyed gardening, and going to her great-grandchildren's sporting events and the Kings games.

She is survived by her husband, Don Saunders of Nevada City; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sharon Saunders of Rapid City, S.D.; daughter, Donna Waldman of Nevada City; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Jeff Lewis of Orangevale; foster children Jamie and Rich Saitain, Rick Ferrand, Jana Wright and Mark Haygood; sister, Jean Baker of Winterset, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Patty Kuhns of Winterset, Iowa; grandchildren Deanna and Frank Trask, Rob Waldman, Kristy and Eric Kraus, Jimmy and Rhonda Saunders, Dennis and Stacy Houlihan, Jonny Houlihan, Amber and Kurt Betzler, Ashlyn Lewis, Jamie Lewis, Matt Ferrand, Adam Ferrand, and Judy and Janne Wright; and great-grandchildren Kyle Waldman, Corey Waldman, Brock Kraus, Callie Kraus, Jordon Trask, Paydon Trask, Dalton Trask, Taylor Betzler, Tyler Houlihan, Justin Houlihan, and Zackary Harrell. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Harold, Russell, Ralph, and Les Kuhns; and son-in-law, Chuck Waldman.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
