Obituary of Myrtle Garrett
Earlham, Madison County, Iowa
December 1970A long time resident of Earlham, Myrtle Garrett passed on to her eternal home on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1970 after an illness of a few weeks.
She was the daughter of Evan and Lydia Garrett, born on a farm northeast of Earlham, on March 11, 1875. She was one of seven children all of whom preceded her in death.
She with the family, moved to Earlham about 1903 where she has since resided. She received her education in the Earlham School, except one year when she attended University Park in Oskaloosa, where she studied music, piano and voice. She then returned home to care for her parents, who were in failing health.
She will be remembered by many who came to her home where she gave music lessons for a number of years.
She was the oldest resident member of the Earlham Friends church, where she was an active and faithful member, helping in the choir and music always a very conscientious person, ever ready to be helpful as long as her health permitted.
She accepted the responsibility of caring for her sister Elizabeth in the home, until she passed away, then later her sister Emma Ramsey was in her loving care until she too was gone.
She loved her church and her Lord and during the time when her health and strength seemed failing, she many times expressed her desire to go to be with Him whom she felt had sustained her through the years.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, and many friends who will miss her cheerful ways.
