Elizabeth Garrett, daughter of Evan and Lydia Garrett, was born on a farm northeast of Earlham, November 6, 1871, and departed this life on Thursday morning, October 11, 1956 at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and five days.

She was one of seven children, three of whom preceded her in death, two brothers, Menary and Adalaska Garrett and one sister Rose Johnson. About 1903 she with the family moved into Earlham where she has since resided.

For a number of years, she worked as clerk in the furniture store owned by Dan Jones later in the general store of Thomas Beals. In this capacity she met and made many lasting friends. Always her work was for others.

In her early years she attended Sunday School in the United Brethren church in the Hickory Grove neighborhood. After moving into town, she was converted in revival meetings in the Friends church of which she soon became a member.

She loved her Lord and her church and was deeply concerned for the work of the meeting.

For a number of years she served as an Elder on the Ministry and Council, continuing on until her death. She was always in her place in Sunday School and worship service as long as her health permitted.

She loved children, and for many years taught a Sunday School Class of little folks. Many of her pupils having now gone out into life's work may recall happy memories of their time spent in her class as she taught them The Way of Life.

She was interested in growing things with which nature surrounded her. The birds and flowers where her friends and many were the beautiful flower arangements, which she brought and placed near the pulpit for Sunday School and the worship service.

Elizabeth with her cheerful, optimistic disposition and her faith in her Heavenly Father, has carried through life a beautiful Christion spirit, which will continue on as a benediction to those who knew her.

She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Viola Haxton of Gotebo, Oklahoma, Mrs. Emma Ramsey of Flint, Michigan, and Myrtle Garrett, who so lovingly and faithfully cared for her during her illness. Besides these, she leaves a number of relatives and many friends.
