Betty Lou (Cumings) Green

Betty Lou (Cumings) Green was born September 29, 1931, to Rolla and Alice (Strable) Cumings on a farm near Patterson, Iowa. She died on January 6, 2023, at the age of 91 at Kennybrook Village in Grimes, Iowa.

Betty grew up in the Patterson/Martensdale area. She graduated from Martensdale High School at the age of 16. She then was able to get her two-year teaching certificate from Simpson College. She began teaching in Truro when she was only 18.

Betty married William E. Green on June 12, 1955. Betty and Bill lived in Truro on Atkinson Street for 44 years together and Betty continued to live there until her move to Kennybrook Village in 2018. They had 3 daughters Lynne, Lisa, and LuAnn. Lynne is married to Dave Weltzheimer and live in Manson, Iowa. They are the parents of Scott (Carin) and Sara. Lisa is married to Chris Samson and live in Urbandale, Iowa. They are the parents of Erin Ramsey (Phillip), Megan, and Lauren (Nick Onken). Lu Ann is marred to Deano Chambers and live in Rising Fawn, Georgia. They are the parents of Heather Green and Heath. She enjoyed visiting with her great-grandchildren: Paysli, Chase, and Baylee Weltzheimer; Larae, Beckham, and Oakley Ramsey.

Betty taught 4-6 grade in Truro until starting a family. She then helped Bill manage Green 66 Service in Truro and raise the girls. After Bill's death in 2000, Betty began working as the town librarian. This was a perfect job for an avid reader. She became accomplished with the computer (she was very proud of this) and learned to take on-line trainings.

Betty was a member of the Truro UCC church where she served as an adult Sunday School teacher and numerous offices within the church. She was a member of Jolly Fu and helped with their various activities. She was able to attend her last meeting in December 2022.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and their spouses: Ethel and Dale Letz, Alvin and Betty Cumings, and Leta and Bernard Hollingsworth; brothers-in-law Don and John and Pat Green, several nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Betty is survived by nieces and nephews, and a special sister-in-law, Betty Ann Green. She also leaves behind many cherished friends and distant relatives.

The family would like to thank the staff of Kennybrook Village in Grimes for the compassionate care given to Betty in the 4 years she resided at their facility. In the last year she was also receiving services from Suncrest Hospice that treated her with dignity and respect throughout her last days.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Truro Fire and Rescue, Truro Library, or the Truro UCC Church.

Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Monday at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola.
