Naomi Blanche Johnson

Naomi B. Johnson passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the Windsor Manor in Indianola at the age of 88. Naomi was the daughter of Albert and Blanche Brammer and was born on September 17, 1934, on a farm near Grand River. She grew up in southern Iowa where she would meet her future husband, Richard.

Naomi married Richard Johnson on July 19, 1953, in Kirksville, MO. They enjoyed many years of farming around Bondurant and Truro before Richard passed on January 5, 1988. While one of her favorite jobs was being a farmer’s wife, she also worked various jobs around the Bondurant and New Virginia areas. One thing you could always count on from her was a cheerful greeting and an offering of food. While working at the Chestnut Café near the New Virginia exit, she was known for her great homemade meals and pies, folks would come from all around to enjoy her company and taste her freshly cooked meals.

Naomi and Richard were blessed with three children, Monty, Bonnie and Dan. If Naomi wasn’t cooking and baking, you could find her playing piano, dancing, singing, card playing, sewing, gardening, canning, bird watching, watching her grandson’s wrestle and hosting tea parties at her home outside Truro. There is no doubt that she enjoyed spending lots of time with family and friends but spoiling her grandkids (and their many friends) was her favorite. When Naomi was around, there is no doubt you’d know it. Between the war hoops or her infectious laugh, there was never a dull moment if she was near. One of her favorite sayings was, ‘Life is Good’ and she’d remind her grandkids often of this.

Naomi is survived by her two sons, Monty Johnson of Truro and Dan (Danielle) Johnson of St. Charles. Also surviving are four grandsons Chad (Melissa) Johnson of Joplin, MO and their children Grace (Devan) Mcloud of Wyandotte, OK and their son Weston and Ben Johnson USMC stationed in Japan; Justin (Shawna) Cochran of Carlisle and their sons Jace, Isaiah and Braxten; Mitchell (Anna) Johnson of Truro and their children Ari, Joie and Aidan Johnson; and Jordan (Taylor) Johnson of Norwalk.

In addition to her parents and husband Richard, Naomi was preceded in death by her daughter Bonnie, grandsons Monty (Chip) Johnson and Joey Johnson, granddaughter Lakeisha Johnson, brothers and sisters, Ralph Brammer, Carl Brammer, Dennis Brammer, Helen Horton, Margaret Wilkinson and Alberta Willcox.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2023 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private burial service will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be decided later.

A live stream of the service will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 31, 2023 and can be viewed on Naomi's tribute page at kalefuneralhome.com.
