Robert (Bob) Green

Robert (Bob) Green, 87, of Winterset, went to be with Jesus on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Winterset Care Center North, surrounded by loved ones.

Bob was born August 9, 1935 at home in rural Dallas County to Melvin and Martha (Coleman) Green. He grew up around farm life since he was born. He enjoyed helping his father and other family members with livestock and taking care of crops. He went to country school most of his young years. He did attend Redfield High School until his junior year, and chose to work on the farm to help his family.

Bob and his first wife, Kay had a daughter, Lesa (Green) James. In 1960, he started dating Lillian (DeCamp) Green. On New Year’s Eve 1960, the two eloped to Bethany, Missouri. Bob and Lillian, along with Lillian’s son, Rick, moved to a farm outside of Van Meter. In 1961, Bob adopted Rick. Eventually, Bob and his wife left the farm and he worked in a Mrs. Grimes factory. Eventually, he returned to work on a farm for Jerry Nance as a farmhand in 2006. He and his lovely wife retired to Mena, Arkansas. Due to his health, he returned to Iowa in 2020.

Bob loved anything to do with farming, animals, feeding the birds, and sweet tea. He was a family man, family meant everything to him. He had such a sweet, caring, personality. Everyone who met him instantly fell in love with him.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Martha (Coleman) Green; his wife, Lillian (DeCamp) Green; and his son, Rick Green (by only 10 days).

He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Lesa (John) James of AZ; brother, Leland (Deanna) Green of Salina, KS; 5 grandchildren, Cassandra (Brandon) Garner of Snowflake, AZ, Gayle Green of Winterset, Nicholas James of Oak Point, TX, Robert (Vicky) Green of Booneville, and Matthew (Phuong) Green of San Francisco, CA; 7 great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Zach, Braydon, Kenli, Jaidin, Joel, and Lexi.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Living Love Church of the Nazarene in Winterset. Family will gather from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Harper Cemetery, Redfield. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future designation.
