Jimmy Berry

Jimmy Berry, 61, of Winterset, passed away at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center on Sunday, November 6, 2022.

A graveside service with military honors will take place at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 26, 2022 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in rural Van Meter. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future designation.

Jimmy was born on May 27, 1961 to Larry and Betty (Lehman) Berry in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Winterset High School and graduated in 1980. He served in the United States Air Force for 11 years, and was very proud to serve his country. He was also proud of all his accomplishments during that time in his life. After that, he worked with his brother as a painter and later worked driving a Ready Mix concrete truck.

Jimmy was full of orneriness, and was full of love for his family and his friends. He was quick witted and could get so energetic while telling stories of the “old days”. He would want you all to know how special each and every one of you were to him.

Jimmy enjoyed watching football and could tell you the name of almost every coach, player, the positions that each held, and the year that a particular memorable game was played. His favorite was cheering on his Iowa Hawkeye and Dallas Cowboys. Jimmy loved to bowl and participated in a bowling league. He liked to go mushroom hunting in the spring and always knew the best spots. He was also quite the fisherman. One of Jimmy’s best catches was a 30+ pound flathead catfish at Pammel Park. Jimmy had a passion for collecting coins and knives, and collected quite a few over the years. Jimmy was also a really good cook and knew how to season his food well. He loved his family and his dog, Buddy. He had the biggest heart and was kind to everyone he knew.

Jimmy is survived by his significant other, Regina Ripperger; children, Mariah Berry, Tyler Berry, and Brielle Berry; brothers, Craig (Barbara) Berry and Brad (Tammy) Berry; 3 grandchildren, Sebastian, Lucy and Oliver; and his cousin, Larry Berry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Betty Berry.
