October 2022Christopher Vaughn Stanford
Christopher Vaughn Stanford was born to John and Sharon Stanford on January 7th, 1958 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He passed away on October 4th at his home in West Des Moines, Iowa.
He grew up in Quasqueton, Iowa with his four siblings and graduated from East Buchanan High School in 1977. Chris worked at HyVee as a dairy manager for the past 23 years. In his free time, Chris enjoyed hanging out with his children and grandchildren, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, attending car shows, listening to live music, and visiting the local watering holes. The word “stranger” was completely unknown to Chris, as he would talk to anyone and everyone he met. He truly knew how to live life to the fullest and was always willing to give a helping hand.
Chris is preceded in death by his father, his brother, and his previous wife, Vicki. He is survived by his mother, Sharon Stanford; sisters, Carmon McGraw and Cheryl Stanford; brother, Charles Stanford; his wife, Cindy Stanford; and children, Jason (Lindsay) Stanford, Kelli Stanford, Angela Lahr, Andrea Reynolds, Allen (Taylor) Shahan, and Erika Shahan.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Can Do Cancer (candocancer.org), a non-profit organization that works to improve and enhance the lives of breast cancer patients in Des Moines and surrounding areas or Breast Cancer Relief Foundation (give.bcrf.org), who is matching all donations in the month of October.
There will be a Celebration of Life in Chris’s memory at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 12th, 2022 at the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines (925 Jordan Creek Pkwy). A luncheon will follow the service. For those attending the Celebration of Life, please wear jeans and Hawkeye apparel.
Transcriber’s Note: Christopher Stanford lived in Winterset for several years after his marriage to Vickie Jackson.
