Word was received here Monday of the death of Dr. Scofield of Kansas, formerly of this place. Dr. Scofield has a host of friends in this community who will hear with sadness of his untimely death.

Dr. A. J. Scofield Dead

We take the following from the Quenemo News relative to the death of Dr. Scofield, the father of Lebo's genial and popular druggist. Clyde has the sympathy of his many Lebo friends in his bereavement.

"This community was greatly shocked Monday noon when it learned that Dr. A. J. Scofield had departed this life at 12:35 at his home in this city. The doctor had been sick a little over a week with pneumonia, but the fever had left him Saturday and it was thought he would soon be better, but on Sunday the family became alarmed and his daughter, brothers and a sister were telegraphed for.

Dr. Scofield was a native of Delaware county, Ohio, where he was born on May 30, 1852. In early childhood he located with his parents in Illinois later coming farther west with his brothers and locating in Iowa where his young manhood was spent.

On February 5, 1875, he was united in marriage with Parthenia Norman. They started their married life at Greenfield, Iowa. To them were born two sons and four daughters, three of them preceding him to the other world, the wife, one son, Clyde B. Scofield of Lebo, Mrs. Allele Farrow of Wamego and Miss Marie are left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father.

Dr. Scofield was a practicing physician in Iowa before moving to Waverly four years ago locating in Quenemo on March 22, 1912. He was successful as a physician and made friends by his kindly disposition and interest in their welfare. He loved his home life was, fond of his children and was a devoted, kind and affectionate husband and father.

The funeral services were held from the Methodist church, Wednesday afternoon, February I2th, conducted by Rev. J. F. Leigh pastor of the church. Internment was made in the Oak Hill Cemetery".
