Reverend Donald Dean Frank, originally from Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on December 14, 2020 in Indianola, Iowa. Don, son of Paul Sellers Frank and Cressa Lucille (Copple) Frank, was born May 3, 1932 at Cherokee, Iowa.

As a boy his family lived on a farm near Washta, Iowa where he attended school through 5th grade. In 1942 the family moved to a farm near Alden, Iowa, where he graduated from Alden Public High School in 1949.

He attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls in 1949, then transferred to Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, where he graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1953. In 1964 he received his Master of Divinity Degree from Drake University Divinity School in Des Moines, Iowa.

On August 18, 1951 Don was united in marriage to Virginia Marie Lawrence at the United Methodist Church in Cooper, Iowa. After Virginia's death he was united in marriage to Velma Fay (Swinehart) Griffith at First United Methodist Church in Winterset, Iowa, on September 15, 2003.

While attending Simpson College Don worked for Green Bay Lumber Company in Indianola, where he later becoming manager. Over the years Don and his family lived in various places in Iowa, serving as pastor. Including Medora, Mt Pleasant Circuit, (Pleasant Hill, Behlah, Wesley Chapel, and Prairie Gem) Washington, Macksburg, Lorimor, Wesley Chapel, Hebron, Iowa Conference Staff - Director of Youth Work and Camping, Westmar College, Des Moines, Jefferson, Mason City District Superintendent, Winterset, Patterson, and Weslaco (Texas). Serving in ministry in the United Methodist Church for 54 years.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Virginia in 2001, his parents, his brother Harold Frank (Sheila), daughter Jeanette Marie Zimmerli (Kevin), grandson Raymond Dean Frank and his great-granddaughter Amelia Zimmerli.

Don is survived by his wife Velma, sister Sally Porter, children Katheryn Jean Frank, Sandra Kay Frank Schwartz (Thomas), and Larry Dean Frank (Nancy), his grandchildren Karen Marie Gomez (Brian), Jeffery Zimmerli (Courtney) Janice Marie Frank, and Heather Kay Gennarelli (Michael), and his great-grandchildren Isaac Zimmerli-York, Dylan Zimmerli, Kaitlyn Stratos, Chloe Gomez, Logan Shimerdla, Haley Zimmerli, Aubrey Divelbess, Hadley Divelbess, Ryker Zimmerli, Kinnick Michael Gennarelli, Hadley Ray Gennarelli, and Landry May Gennarelli.

His step children include Evelyn Akers (Tim), David Sanderson (Karey), Vicky Ryan and (Robert Bauman), and Carolyn Sue Hamilton (John). His step grandchildren include Annette Oehm (Scott), Adam Scrivner, Quincy Scrivner (Angela), Kristie Semrow (Darren), Nathan Sanderson, Mackenzie Niday, Ashlynn Niday, Lorri Holloway (Stewart), Shannon Bennett (Ryan), Dwight Cameron (Valorie), and Philip Cameron (Tarra). His step great grandchildren include Justin Oehm (Sydney), Brianna Oehm, Jacob Oehm, Bevery Scrivner, Jackson Scrivner, Julian Scrivner, Annastasia Scrivner, Olivia Scrivner, Bailey Scrivner, Madison Semrow, Emma Semrow, Raegan Semrow, Kaci Sanderson, Kyle Sanderson, Tony (TJ) Dailey (Hannah), Jordan Dailey (Ashley), Devin Dailey, Kodi Dailey, Stewart Holloway Jr., Megan Schad, Brandon Schad, Isabelle (Izzy) Schad, Charlotte (Charlie) Bennett, Lydia Cameron, and Margot Cameron. And his step great-great grandchildren are Oliver Bodensteiner and Remington Bodensteiner.

Private family services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020. Friends may join the family on our Livestream on Don’s obituary page of Overton Funeral Home’s website beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Franklin Township Cemetery, Cooper, IA. Memorials may be directed to The Good Shepherd Fund at The Village 1203 North E Street, Indianola, IA 50125.
