Obituary
Newspaper UnknownJohnathan Shreves was born in Clay County, Illinois, April 8, 1836 and died in Brighton, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1902, of heart failure, after an illness of but three hours.
He came to Iowa with his mother in 1851 and settled in Madison county, his father having died previous to this time. From there they came to Adair county, Iowa in 1859 and to Brighton, Iowa in 1891. Here he remained but one year when he returned to Adair county where he resided till 1894, at which time he came to Brighton where he remained until the time he was called to his great reward.
He was united in marriage to Miss Dorcas Easton Oct. 11, 1860. To them was born one daughter, Lidia Brinton, who, with Bessie Shreves, who has lived with them since she was but five years of age, and his companion, remain to mourn the departure; but to cherish the noble qualities of a husband and father, so kind and true.
He enlisted in the civil war as a volunteer Aug. 1, 1862, where he proved himself to be a brave and true soldier.
