SIM BEEDLE KILLED

Crushed By a Threshing Engine at Truman, Minnesota

The following account of the death of Sim Beedle, a former well known citizen of Madison county is taken from the Truman Tribune.

Sim Beedle, living about two miles southeast of Truman, passed into the great beyond at about 7:30 Wednesday morning, the 5th, at the Emanuel Hospital in Mankato.

His untimely death was caused from an accident received Monday afternoon, about 1:30, while trying to move a threshing rig. The outfit was located on the Christ Voelker farm about 1 mile from the Beedle home. Mr. Beedle, a 14-year-old son, and Walter Hoover were assisting in the work.

When the accident occurred Mr. Beedle was backing the engine down to the separator, and the three were standing on the engine platform. There was a sudden crash and the platform fell from under them. Walter and the boy escaped by jumping, but Mr. Beedle was caught between the big drive wheel and the tender. The boy showed great presence of mind and seeing his father jumped on the engine and turned off the steam. Mr. Hoover, who luckily understood the running of an engine (text apparently missing) and liberating the injured man.

Aid was at once secured by means of the telephone and willing hands soon had the torn and bleeding man at his home. Dr. Hunte and Druggist G. E. Foster were soon at the scene of the accident and made careful examination of the injuries. The hip bone was badly crushed and large pieces of splintered bone were removed. The great wheel had torn a hole several inches square through the side and badly lacerated the side and breast.

Dr. Hunte at once phoned for Dr. Holman of Mankato, who made the trip in an auto. After a consultation it was decided to remove Mr. Beedle to the Mankato hospital, which was on Tuesday morning, the wife and two brothers, Guy and Henry, accompanying him. All that surgery could do was done but without success.

The remains were brought home Wednesday and the funeral services were conducted from the home today (Thursday) at 10:00 o’clock, Rev. A. S. Reeves officiating. Interment was made in the Westford U. B. Cemetery.

Simeon G. Beedle was born September 7, 1870, at Winterset, Madison Co, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. January 31, 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Jane Clear, of the same place. Seven children were the fruits of this union, six of whom, with the widow, father and mother, four brothers, and two sisters, remain to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father, husband, son and brother.

Deceased came to Martin county on August 10, 1898, and settled on his farm southeast of this place. He has ever been honored and respected by his neighbors and acquaintances for his honesty and integrity of character. He was a hard-working and thrifty citizen and from a small beginning his prospects were bright, had he been spared to live out his natural days. He will be missed by a large circle of acquaintances, as was manifested by the large attendance at the funeral.

Among those from abroad, present at the funeral, were Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Beedle of Albert Lea, a brother of the deceased. The father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Beedle of Winterset, Iowa, and Mrs. Bennett, Miss Rye Beedle and Miss Clear, of the same place, arrived too late by only a few hours.

The sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved ones.
