Gerald Leroy “Jake” Benge was born June 29, 1938, in Indianola, Iowa to Clarence Mack and Lela Leona (Parker) Benge. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Jake retired as the supervisor of the maintenance garage at the Des Moines Water Works. He loved his family and was always willing to lend a hand to help with a project. Jake enjoyed spending time fishing and traveling.

Jake is lovingly remembered by his wife, Norma; son, Alan (Lori); eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and eight siblings. He will be missed greatly by many family members, friends, and by Charlie his four legged fur baby. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret; his daughter, Wanda; and four siblings.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, at O’Leary Funeral Home, 1020 Main Street in Norwalk. His funeral will begin at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Orilla Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
