David Smith, Retired Officer, Dies

Mesa – Services for David F. Smith, 70, a Mesa resident 19 years, will be conducted at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Melcher Mortuary, 43 S. Stapley Drive, by Joe H. Booth of the Church of Christ. Burial will be in Memory Lawn Memorial Park

Mr. Smith, a retired policeman who lived at 1203 W. First Place, died Wednesday at the Veterans Administration hospital in Phoenix. He was a native of Earlham, Iowa.

Mr. Smith, a World War I veteran, served with the Army's Rainbow Division. He was a life, member and past commander of the Mesa post of the American Legion, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mesa Elks Lodge 1781, Mesa Moose Lodge, and Disabled American Veterans.

His wife, Mabel; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Jane Lantz of Madison, Wis., and Mrs. Beverly Heath of Mesa; four grand-children, and two great-grand-children survive.
