Denis Leon Kale

Denis Leon Kale, son of Loren Ellsworth Kale and Etha Dora Freeman Kale was born February 17, 1941 in Truro, Iowa and peacefully passed from this life Saturday, April 30th, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Denny received his education in Truro, Iowa and graduated from Truro High School in 1959. He was active in Boy Scouts as a youth and loved to pester his sisters, Carolyn and Marolyn. He graduated from Grandview Junior College and Simpson College where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business.

Denny was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Sandra Sue Reed on December 21, 1962 at the United Methodist Church in Truro, Iowa. One son, Eric Todd blessed this union. They were happily married for 59 years.

Denny further continued his education by attending Dallas Institute of Funeral Service. He returned to Truro to run the family funeral home with wife, Sandy becoming a fourth-generation Funeral Director. In 1970, Denny and Sandy purchased the Webster Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa. He was a member of First Christian Church of Osceola, 50 year member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Selected Independent Funeral Homes, past Rotary Club member, Chamber of Commerce member, 50 year member of Osceola Lodge #77A.F.& A.M. He served on the Osceola Hospital Board, Board of Directors for Clarke County State Bank. Denny and Sandy were one of the founding families of American State Bank where he served on the Board of Directors for many years.

Denny enjoyed water sports, boating, fishing, golfing, antiquing, RV’ing, traveling with his motor coach friends and spending time with his family. He loved to watch cowboy shows, Fox News and The Golden Girls. He was very competitive at the family Hand and Foot card night (house rules of course). He enjoyed cooking and baking for his family and friends and enjoyed Royal Red season in Florida, where the kids had to help him stockpile his seasons stash of his royal reds. Denny’s joy in life was caring for his double yellow headed parrot, Jeff and the poodles, Zoie and Chloe. Denny loved to take the grandkids on the golf cart exploring the great outdoors. He and Sandy enjoyed retirement in Florida and when Todd, Alisha and the kids would visit it was commonplace to make sure to stop at NASA, Disney World Parks and Universal Studios. The family enjoyed many vacations together.

Those relatives who preceded Denny in death were his parents, his sister Carolyn, his mother and father-in-law, Dorris and J. Fred Reed.

Denny leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Sandy and son Todd and his wife Alisha Kale; grandchildren, Reed, Abby and Ethan Kale and Ely Crawford; sister, Marolyn and her husband, Jerrold Jordan as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many many friends.
