Howard C Hadley, 95, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 28, 2022 at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston.

Visitation will be 5-7pm, Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Iles Westover Chapel, Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10am, Wednesday, May 4 at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held at Brethren Cemetery, rural Dallas Center, Iowa.

Howard was born December 24, 1926 in rural Earlham, Iowa, to parents, Willard and Berniece (Cook) Hadley. He graduated from Earlham High School. He faithfully served in the US Army, during World War II. Following the service, he graduated from Iowa State College. He began his career at John Deere Works in Ankeny, where he worked for over 50 years as a Senior Design Engineer. In 1953, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Denny in Des Moines. They made their home in Dallas Center, Iowa, where they raised their three daughters, Gayla, Melanie and Celia. He was a member of the Presbyterian church in Dallas Center, where he served as a Deacon and an Elder, and active in the community, including the Masonic Lodge and the Boy Scouts. In 1981, they moved to Des Moines and joined Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Howard and Betty enjoyed traveling the US in their RV with their daughters and later grandchildren. He enjoyed antiquing and collectibles, home remodeling, his HO train collection and duck decoys.

Howard is survived by his children, Gayla (Steve) Zenz of Des Moines, Melanie Batcher of Clive and Celia (Jim) Landis of Palmyra, Virginia; six grandchildren, Kevin (Gwen) Zenz, Katie (Joey) Aguirre; Amanda Ackerman, Kristin Ackerman, Jennifer Landis and Megan (Justin) Sullivan; great grandchildren, Jacob and Naomi; brother, Leonard (Marlene) Hadley of Cedar Rapids as well as nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Betty in 2008; and his sister, Marjorie Smith.
