CARL V. RUSK - Ames

Carl V, Rusk, 84, died February 18, 2006 at Israel Family Hospice House. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ-Congregational on 6th and Kellogg in Ames, Iowa. Rev. Dr. Stephen McDuff will be officiating. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames.

Carl was born on April 14, 1921 in Madison County to Gail and Evelina (Bierma) Rusk. He attended country schools in Madison and later in Jasper County, graduating from Newton High School in 1938. He graduated from Iowa State College in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics. He was the owner of Carl Rusk Appraisal Service.

He married Barbara Phillips in Des Moines, Iowa on November 18, 1949. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force and the 42nd Rainbow Infantry Division from 1943 until 1946 in Europe. While serving in the occupation Army in Austria, he attended the Rainbow University in Zell and See Land Salzburg, Austria. He took graduate courses in economics at Arizona State University.

He was a 45-year member of Kiwanis. Carl has served on several boards and committees at his church, including that of being a Deacon. He was past President of The Ames Garden Club, a Master Gardener, a life member of the National Garden Club, a Garden Consultant and a Landscape Design Consultant. He was a member and Past President of Eta Chapter Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, President of the Alumni Board and received the outstanding Service Award in 1992. He was a member of the Cyclone Club, a life member of the Iowa State Alumni Association, and the Order of the Knoll.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Susan Blair of Ames; three sons, Richard (Edee) Rusk of Houston, TX, William Rusk of Portland, OR, and Timothy (Sasha) Rusk of Orange, CA; five grandchildren; one sister, Deloris Lang of Grinnell, IA; three brothers, Forrest Rusk of Newton, IA, Dale Rusk of Sun Lakes, AZ, and James Rusk of Elgin, OR. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two infant grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Adult Day Care at Heartland Senior Services in Ames, Iowa or the Iowa Arboretum.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
