WILLIAM SAWHILL - Indianola

William Bernard Sawhill, 79, of Indianola died of a heart ailment Tuesday at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baotist Church in Indianola, with burial at Peru City Cemetery in Peru.

Mr. Sawhill was born in Des Moines and had lived here most of his life before moving to Indianola. He had been a policeman, a carpenter and had owned and operated Iowa Lock and Key. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion and Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed dancing and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Cornelia; two sons, Danny of Runnells and Doran of Sandpoint, Idaho; a stepson, Dale Eeling of Vidalia, La.; two stepdaughters, Betty Schutte and Delores Koopman, both of Pella; a sister, Margie Foddrill of Des Moines; four grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; 31 step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola. Memorial contributions may be made to Farmers Chapel Building Fund.
