Alice Joann Lemon, 86, of Winterset, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Azria Health in Winterset.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Hebron Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be donated to the American Heart Association and/or the Dementia Society of America.

Joann was born on July 14, 1935 to Edward and Agnes (Jones) Pettit in Orient, Iowa. She was a graduate of Macksburg High School in 1953. On April 28, 1955 she married James Lemon. Over the years she worked as a part of the kitchen staff at the nursing home, at the Hilton Hotel on the south side of Des Moines, and at Capital City Fruit.

Joann loved to sit and read a good book. Every year at Christmas, she would gather the grandkids and read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. She also loved to do crosswords, putting puzzles together, and play board games and cards, especially 10 point pitch and Canasta. Joann enjoyed listening to country music and always slept with the radio on. She was an avid collector of elephants and elephant related items. Above all else, Joann loved her family and spending time with them every chance she got.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents, Edward and Agnes Pettit; brothers, Donald (Lois) Pettit, Dick(Betty) Pettit and Jerry (Dorothy) Pettit; sister, Lucile (Dallas) Meisenheimer; brothers-in-law, Bill Wright and Bill Fisher; and sister-in-law, Joann Pettit.

She is survived by her five children, Jimmy (Teresa) Lemon of Earlham, Anita Allen of Winterset, Jeanie (Lester) Purscell of Winterset, Robin (Dale) Danielson of Winterset, and Kevin (Julie) Lemon of Urbandale; brother, Bill Pettit of Corpus Christi, TX; sister, Janice Fisher of Bethany, MO; 9 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
