Dixie Lee Bardwell, 89, of Winterset, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022 at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in West Des Moines.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 22, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery, St. Charles. Memorials may be directed to the family for a future designation. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at caldwellparrish.com.

Dixie was born in Des Moines, Iowa on September 27, 1932, the daughter of Wesley and Mary (Larkins) Cleghorn. She was united in marriage to Robert Bardwell on June 19, 1954 at Christ the King Church in Des Moines, Iowa. They raised eight children.

At a young age Dixie worked as a bookkeeper at an office in Des Moines. She was also a talented psychic and learned to use her gifts to improve the lives of hundreds of clients, both personally and professionally. She worked for many attorneys as a trial consultant and consulted with law enforcement as well, aiding detectives in solving cases and in finding missing people. She lectured across Iowa on psychic phenomena and the power of the mind and was a regular guest on WHO Radio.

She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. She was a member of the Winterset Art Center and was an Apple Tree Club actress. Dixie loved dancing, painting, poetry, and was an avid reader. She loved to go sledding. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She also enjoyed traveling, including memorable trips to Alaska, California and Branson. Above all else, Dixie enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Dixie is survived by her children, Kermit “Vince” Bardwell of Winterset, Cinda (Elton) Root of Winterset, Sheila (Eric) Garner of Booneville, Julie (Harold) Forsyth of Winterset, Cheryl (Joseph) Kurimski of Van Meter, Robert “Mike” (Carrie) Bardwell of Van Meter, Patrick Bardwell of Patterson, and Oliver (Carrie) Bardwell of Clive; brother, Conrad Cleghorn of Winterset; 28 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Wesley Cleghorn; mother, Mary Tully; stepfather, Vernon Tully; husband, Robert; brothers, Wesley (Neva) Cleghorn Jr. and Delbert Cleghorn in infancy; sister-in-law, JoAnn Cleghorn; and grandson, Earnest Root.
