Cancer claims Philip Krell

Philip Thurman Krell 54 of 20413 Glen Brae Court Saratoga died Friday of cancer.

A native of Winterset Iowa, he had moved to the Santa Clara Valley about 11 years ago and had been employed as an engineer at Lockheed Missiles and Space Co in Sunnyvale.

Krell was a retired Navy commander who commanded the Defense Atomic Support Agency, which is located in Sandia Naval Base in Albuquerque, N.M., before moving to the Santa Clara Valley.

Survivors are his wife Elisabeth; four daughters, Barbara J Kronsteiner of North Bend, Ore., Susan A Massong of Seattle, Wash., and Katherine and Mary Ann Krell, both of Saratoga, a son Phillip T. Krell, Jr. of South San Francisco and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley M. Krell of San Jose.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Tuesday, followed by burial in Madrona Cemetery. A Rosary was delivered at the Darling-Fischer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary in Los Gatos, which conducted funeral arrangements.
