R, M. Clampitt, Long a Resident of Des Moines, Succumbs to Operation.

Richard M. Clampitt, an old civil war veteran and one of the oldest residents of Des Moines, died at Methodist hospital last evening. His death was due to an operation.

Mr. Clampitt had resided on East Twelfth street and Court avenue for the last 35 years and is well known throughout the city. He was a member of Kinsman post.

He was the father of Mrs. S. D. Whinery and Mrs. Cora Eaton.

The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. A. E. Van Horn will officiate. Interment will be made in Woodland cemetery.

Transcriber's note: Per Civil War Records,the deceased was a resident of Madison County when he enlisted in the 39th Iowa Infantry in 1862. He was living in Scott Township in the 1870 census.
