Funeral services for J. Paul Craven, 88, long time resident of Newton, were held there on Monday, March 21, 1994, at Reese Chapel, with burial in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe, where he had been a former resident for twenty-three years.

A banker for forty years, he began his career at Monroe State Bank, later being with First Newton National Bank until his retirement. He had been active in many Newton and Jasper County organizations.

Born August 21, 1905, in Macksburg, he resided there for 25 years. A graduate of Macksburg High School, he also attended Des Moines University and the graduate school of banking at the University of Wisconsin.

Preceding him in death were his parents and three sisters.

He was married to Catharine M. Charles, May 9, 1931, in Omaha.

Surviving him are his wife, Catharine; a daughter, Cecilia Hansen of Waterloo; three grandchildren; five-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Frank of Winterset.
