J. A. Greene died Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. (Elizabeth) Whitworth. He had only been sick about a week and his death was a surprise to everyone. He was 80 years old, but a man of such wonderful vitality, that until a short time ago, he worked regularly in the field. Mr. Green was a native of Pennsylvania and was a soldier in the Mexican War. He was a grandson of General Nathaniel Greene, of the Revolutionary War. Funeral services will be held today in the Methodist Church at 2 o'clock.

Three times last week did the gates of the cemetery swing open to admit slow marching processes to the city of silence. Tuesday occurred the funeral of Mr. J. A. Green as noted in last Tuesday's paper.

OBITUARY.—The friends and acquaintances of J. A. Green were pained to learn of his death on the morning of August the 5th, 1895, at his home, one half mile east of Macksburg, Iowa, after an illness of short duration. Mr. Green was a native of Pennsylvania. Soon after gaining his majority, he enlisted as a soldier in the Mexican war. Subsequently he emigrated to the west and settled in the state of Missouri, and later, about eight years ago, Mr. Green and his wife moved to this vicinity, and have resided with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Whitworth. Mr. Green was an unostentatious man, courting retirement rather than publicity. He was not blessed with a robust body, and yet he accomplished his daily tasks in life far more acceptable than many men endowed with greater physical force. Rev. F. S. Bunting attended him in his last moments of earthly life. He died in full faith of a glorious life beyond the grave.

Mr. Green was born in Hunter county, Pennsylvania, 80 years ago. He counts a sorrowing wife and five children and many friends to mourn his loss. The funeral took place at the M. E. church August 6, 1895, conducted by the G.A.R.’s. The funeral services were preached by Rev. F. S. Bunting.
