Funeral Services – Jackson

Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 28, from Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson for Hazel Mae Jackson, 75, of Rippey, long time Greene county resident.

The Rev. Eric Guy, pastor of the Rippey United Methodist Church, officiated. Marilynn Hoskinson was organist.

Casket bearers were Darwin Johnston, Gail Monthei, Mark Heater, Laurence Huber, Bill Heater and Kevin Hick. Interment was in Union Cemetery at Guthrie Center.

Hazel Mae Jackson, daughter of Harvey Paul and Edith Margaret Hill Payton, was born Sept. 15, 1920, in Menlo. She died Feb. 24, 1996, at her home in Rippey.

Hazel attended and graduated from Menlo High School. On Aug. 28, 1941, Hazel was united in marriage with Harold Wilfred Jackson at her parents’ farm in Menlo. They were the parents of Paul, Lewis, John, Merle, Glen, Robert, Barbara and Shirley.

The family lived in Jefferson, later moving to Grand Junction. Harold and Hazel moved to Rippey after Harold’s retirement, and Hazel continued to live there following Harold’s death in 1989.

She was a homemaker for most of her life, except for about two years when she worked at Truck Haven Café in Jefferson making pies.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Herald on Nov. 28, 1989; one granddaughter, Deanna Jackson and one sister, Mildred.

She is survived by six sons, Paul and his wife JoAnn of Rogers, AR, Lewis and his wife Wanda of Des Moines, John of Rippey, Merle and his friend Kathy of Rippey, Glen of Jefferson, and Robert and his wife Tonya of Panora; two daughters, Barbara Harkins and her husband Mark of Des Moines and Shirley Fitch and her husband Steve of De Soto; 16 grandchildren, Sheila Jackson of Des Moines, Dennis Jackson in his wife Tabatha of Prescott, AZ, Brenda Lee Clouse and her husband Mike of Guthrie Center, Wanda Sue Jackson and Robert Jackson, both of Jefferson, Becky Jackson of Fort Dodge, Jake Jackson of Rippey, Marilyn Jacobs and her husband Anthony of Bellevue, NE, Kevin Stevens and his wife Tracy of Des Moines, Amanda Harkins and Rebecca Harkins, both of Des Moines, Nicholas Fitch and Holly Fitch, both of De Soto, and Brandon, Tommy and Ericka Jackson, all of Panora; eight great-grandchildren.
