Marilyn Ann Tobey passed away on Saturday September 12th at Trinity Center at Luther Park, after dealing with the ravages of Alzheimer’s Disease for more than four years.

Marilyn was born on June 10th, 1941 in Earlham, Iowa, to Verl and Eunice Chase. Marilyn spent much of her youth in Madison County, IA. She grew up on a family farm in rural Earlham, along with her brothers John and Verl Jr. Marilyn graduated from Earlham High School in 1959. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Des Moines to begin her employment with Equitable Life Insurance of Iowa. Marilyn lived in close proximity to downtown Des Moines while working for Equitable of Iowa. It was near downtown Des Moines, while she was enjoying some time away from work with friends, where she would meet David Tobey, her future husband. David and Marilyn would go on to celebrate 55 years of marriage.

As a Mother of three boys, Marilyn was very active with their many activities, including Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Fairground Little League, and East High School Band. She served on many PTA boards at elementary and middle schools. Marilyn was a long-time volunteer with Polk County voting precincts. She was also a long-time member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and she served the Church in many capacities. While living at home in her later years, Marilyn enjoyed spending time with David, and their many friends, at the Polk County Eastside Senior Center.

Left to cherish the many fond memories of Marilyn are her husband David, along with her three sons - Michael (Laura) of Clive, Steve of Omaha, NE, Duane (Stephanie) of Grimes. She is further survived by three grandsons - Jacob of Grimes, Andrew of Clive and Caleb of California, and by her granddaughter Cassidy (William) of Austin, TX along with great granddaughter Josephine. Marilyn is also survived by her brother Verl (Shizuko) of Omaha and by her brother in law, Glenn Tobey of California. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and by her brother John.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Des Moines.
