After many long weary months of suffering, near the closing of the day on November 15, 1932, the spirit of Curtus Cook took its flight to the its eternal resting place.

For about six years Curtis as he was familiarly called had been in failing health.

John Curtis Cook, only son of John Hamilton and Samantha Cook, was born December 17, 1874 in Madison county, Iowa and died at his home near Earlham November 15, 1932, being 57 years, 10 months and 28 days old at the time of his death. He moved with his parents to Adair county when but an infant and lived there until young manhood when he with the family returned to Madison county where he spent the remainder of his life.

E. church in the year 1900 under the pastorate of Rev. Watkins. He was seldom absent from the place of worship when his health permitted him to attend.

He was united in marriage to Anna L. Wynkoop of Madison township on February 26, 1914, and for almost 20 years they have shared the joys and sorrows of wedded life.

MR. CURTIS COOK CALLED TO REST

Well Known Local Man Passed Away Last Tuesday in Fifty-Seventh Year. Funeral Services Were Held Thursday Afternoon at the Fairview Church.

After many long weary months of suffering, near the closing of the day on November 15, 1932, the spirit of Curtis Cook took its flight to its eternal resting place.

For about six years “Curtis” as he was familiarly called had been in failing health. After doctoring for some time with the local physicians, he finally consulted one of the best specialists in Des Moines. After a careful examination, he was placed on a strict diet, and while not so rugged as before, he partially regained his health. But over a year ago his health again failed, and though he put up a brave fight with the “grim monster,” it became all too apparent to his friends and loved ones months ago, that he was certainly slipping away from them. His patience and fortitude through all his suffering and weakness was remarkable. He longed to go—his only wish to live being that he might repay the one who had cared so lovingly for him.

John Curtis Cook, only son of John Hamilton and Samantha Cook, was born December 17, 1874, in Madison County, and died at his home near Earlham November 15, 1932, being 57 years, 10 months and 28 days old at the time of his death.

He moved with his parents to Adair County when but an infant, lived there until young manhood when he with the family returned to Madison County where he spent the remainder of his life.

He united with the M.E. Church at Fontanelle, Iowa, about 1890, during the pastorate of Rev. Michael Harned. After his return to Madison County he transferred his membership to the Fairview M. E. Church in the year 1906, under the pastorate of Rev. Watkins. He was seldom absent from the place of worship when his health permitted him to attend.

He was united in marriage to Anna Wynkoop, of Madison County, on February 26, 1913, and for almost 20 years they shared the joys and sorrows of wedded life.

Curtis loved his home, his neighbors and friends, and no call was ever denied anyone in trouble. His was a practical Christian life without show or ostentation.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, four sisters, Mrs. H. D. Peterson, of Des Moines; Mrs. Sam Sawyer, of Broadwater, Neb.; Mrs. A. A. Peters, of Ridgeway, Mo.; and Mrs. Faith Bradfield, of Kansas City, Mo.; besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for the deceased were held last Thursday afternoon at the Fairview Church, where the body was laid to rest.
