Delbert Johnston

Delbert Johnston, 83, of Winterset, Iowa, died Monday, July 27, 2020, at his home in Winterset. A Celebration of Life service will be held 5:00 PM Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at the American Legion Hall in Winterset. A family burial of his cremains will be in the Winterset Cemetery.

Delbert was born on January 30, 1937, at Tingley, Iowa to James and Agnes (Reynolds) Johnston. He spent most of his life in Winterset having been a barber at Johnston Barber Shop, owner of Summerset Haven in Winterset and Country Haven in Corning, and having been a maintenance man at the Best Car Wash in Winterset. He was also a graduate of Winterset High School. In 1959 he married Eloise Cooper and they were married for 30 years. Some of Delbert’s favorite pastimes were pheasant hunting and mushroom hunting.

Delbert is survived by his children, Scott Johnston and wife Melissa, Duane Johnston and fiancé Debi Krause, Sheri Smith and husband Jmijon, and Lonna Busch and husband Shawn; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Duane Johnston; sister, Lucy Clark; brother-in-law, Jerry Clyde; and sister-in-law, Wanda Johnston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Agnes (Reynolds) Johnston; brother, Donald Johnston; and sisters, Roberta Todd, Alberta McCauley, Annie Collins, June Armstrong, and Sharon Clyde.

Memorials may be directed to his family for a future designation.

Arrangements are being handled by Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home Winterset Chapel in Winterset.
