William Lewis Runkle was born in Madison county, Iowa, June 9, 1856, and died at his home, 1909 26th St., Des Moines, August 29, 1921, his age being 65 years, 2 months and 26 days.
He lived in Madison county until 1897, when he moved to Hubbard county, Minnesota, where he lived for fourteen years, moving to Des Moines ten years ago.
On February 11, 1908, he was married to Mrs. Allie Holmes, who survives him. He is also survived by two brothers.
Mr. Runkle united with the M. E. church in 1892, later transferring his membership to the United Brethren church. He lived a quiet, simple Christian life of kindly service to those about him.
The funeral services were held at Union Chapel on Thursday, September 1st, conducted by Rev. T. W. Foglesong and the body was laid to rest in the cemetery near by.
