Eugene Ray “Gene” Hope, 77, passed from this life on Friday, August 11, 2006 at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2006 at Iles Funeral Homes – Westover Chapel in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service time on Monday. Interment will follow at East Peru Cemetery, near Peru, Iowa.

Gene was born on February 26, 1929 in Winterset, Iowa to Ray and Laura Simmons Hope. He was a veteran, serving in the United States Army from 1948, until he was honorably discharged in 1950. In 1951, Gene moved to Des Moines, Iowa. He married Beverly Landon in 1952 and they made their home in Des Moines. Gene was formerly self-employed as a carpet layer for 35 years, until his retirement in 1991.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Hope of Des Moines; two brothers, Dick Hope and his wife Norma of West Des Moines and Rex Hope and his wife Joanne of Ankeny; two sisters, Deloris Tracy and her husband Wallace of Osceola, IA and Doreta Hager and her husband Ben of Tehachapi, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
