Mrs. John B. Deal

Funeral services for Mrs. John B. Deal, who died at her home in Jefferson last Thursday evening after many weeks of suffering, were held Sunday afternoon from the M. E. church at Jefferson.

Madora Agnes Johnson was born October 30, 1839, in Monroe county, West Virginia. Here her girlhood days were spent. At the age of sixteen she made an overland trip with her parents to McLean county Illinois. March 13, 1862, she was united in marriage with John B. Deal. In 1883 Mr. and Mrs. Deal moved from Illinois to a farm in Minnesota. In 1891 the Deal family moved to Winterset, Iowa, where they resided until 1901 when they moved to Greene county, Iowa.

To this home there was born eight boys and five girls, all of whom are living accept Fletcher Deal who died may 18, 1915. All of the living sons and daughters were present at the funeral except one who resides in California and who came to see his mother during her last illness. Mrs. Samuel Young of Winterset is a daughter.

Mrs. Deal united with the Presbyterian church at the age of 15 years and later affiliated with the M. E. church, of which she has been a devoted member for sixty-five years.

While in California about four years ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis from the effects of which she never recovered. During these years of suffering, especially during the last ten weeks while confined to her bed because of injuries received from a fall on April 17, which resulted in a broken hip, Mrs. Deal was a very patient sufferer.
