Memphis Ripperger

Memphis Ripperger, 18, of Winterset, died in an auto accident on May 24, 2020.

Memphis was born on September 6, 2001 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. For a majority of his life he grew up in the Winterset area. He was a recent graduate from East Union High School this spring.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at the Madison County Fairgrounds. The funeral service will be outdoors, so anyone who would like to sit down is encouraged to bring their own lawn chair. Burial will follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Due to current guidelines for Covid-19 and the State of Iowa, only 50 people will be allowed inside the funeral home for visitation at a time and funeral home staff will monitor guests. The family and funeral home ask that anyone in attendance to the visitation or funeral service to please follow social distancing guidelines. If you are unable to attend the service in person, a live stream will be available at caldwellparrish.com on Memphis’ tribute wall beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Memphis lived life to the absolute fullest and some would say he was rough around the edges. His care-free attitude followed him wherever he went. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and simply getting stuck in the mud. To say he lived life freely would be an understatement. The life he lived was on his own terms and nobody could tell him different. Because of this lifestyle, a new phrase was coined called “Memphis Time.”

Memphis was always on the go. As soon as he learned to ride his bike at the age of 3, he was found going down the middle of Highway 169 by himself. Memphis wasn’t afraid to do or say anything. If there was something he wanted to do, you can bet yourself that he would do it.

There was no filter for Memphis and a lot of people knew that. He was a rough and tough guy who wasn’t scared to stick up for himself, even if it meant throwing a few punches. He enjoyed wrestling and would take on anyone who challenged him. Even with his tuff guy demeanor, he loved his family and friends and would do anything for them.

Left to cherish the many memories of Memphis are his parents, Alison (Jeff) Coffman and Dannel (Shelby) Ripperger; sisters, Mckayle (Taylor), Kinzey, Micaela (Brenden), Kiera, Mckenna, Rylee, and Paisley; brothers, Drue (Hannah), Dallas, and David (Missy); grandparents Kelly and Tammy Simmerman, Jerry and Lorrie Erwin, Gary Dudney, and Dennis and Retta Ripperger, great grandma, Martha (Jeske) McAuley; and close uncle, Chisum along with nephew Maverick and niece Teagan; and many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memphis was preceded in death by his sister, Mercedes Alexis; and great grandparents, Charles and Wanda Landreth, and Floyd and Janet Dudney.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in memory of Memphis for a later designation.
