James McKibban, the youngest son of Joseph and Mary McKibban, was born in Knox county, Illinois, August 30, 1858. In 1864, his parents with their six sons and two daughters moved to Madison county, Iowa, and located on a farm in Lincoln township.

In the pioneer days of Madison county, the McKibban home was noted for its good cheer and entertainment of strangers and friends. The rest of the children established homes for themselves, but Jim, being the youngest son, remained in the old home, maintaining that traditions of hospitality of the old homestead.

Of his brothers and sisters, only two survive him, Lewis, of Macksburg and Mrs. Abner Black, of Winterset. For over 60 years, he has been a member of the one community, living a life of kindly neighborly deeds, and highly respected by those who knew him best.

May 9, 1888, he married Sarah A. Rippey. They reared a family of six children, Ethel, Louden, Nelson, Lee, Lucile and Marjorie, all of whom were permitted to assist in caring for their father in his last days when attacked by cancer which caused his death December 31, 1923.

The funeral services were held at the Ord church, January 2, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Cooper, and burial being made in the Clark cemetery.
