Tuesday, May 10, 2005Irene Clydona Wicks, 99, passed away in Peoria, Arizona on April 24, 2005. She was born in Winterset, Iowa, on July 4, 1905 the daughter of Myles and Clydona Young.
Irene graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1926 and taught school in the Winterset area for seven years prior to her marriage to Wallace Russell Wicks in 1933. They moved to Iowa City in 1948 and reside there for almost forty years during which time Irene was active in Altrusa and the Chi Omega alumni organization.
Irene is survived by sons, John of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Robert, of New York, New York, as well as three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Her husband died in 1983. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Iowa City, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa.
