Abraham J. Snyder was born March 9, 1827, near Harrisburg, Pa. His mother died when he was but two months of age. He had neither brother or sister and was put in the home of an uncle and aunt to be reared by them. His aunt died when he was in his teens, he then lived among different relatives until he enlisted in the Civil war, Company F 35th Iowa Infantry. He served in the war until honorably discharged on account of disability.

In 1864 he was united in marriage to Tursey Ann Price near Galesburg, Ill. They lived in Muscatine county, Iowa, for a short time, moved to Illinois, living there several years then moved back to Iowa remaining there until death.

To this union were born six children, all living except Della Ann, who died in infancy, Mary I. Holloway, DeSoto, Ind., George L. Snyder, McHenry, N.D., Frances M. Mullins, Redfield, Iowa, John M. Snyder, DeSoto, Iowa, Hannah E. Beam, Herndon, Iowa.

In 1916 his wife died breaking up his home. He went to live with his daughter, Mrs. George Mullins, there he lived over a year. He then went to the Soldiers’ Home at Marshalltown, Iowa. He was an invalid for several years, being a great sufferer at time. He departed this life May 31, 1918, aged 91 years, 2 months, 22 days.

He leaves to mourn his loss five children, two grandchildren and many friends. His son, George L. Snyder was unable to be present at the funeral. After the sermon at the grave he was laid to rest beside his wife at Union Chapel, Madison county, Iowa.
