RICHARD PRICE DIES IN EASTERN TOWN

Former Winterset Business Man and Senator from Madison County Adair District Passes Away

A telegram was received by Walter Stark Monday morning announcing the death of Richard Price at the home of his son, (P)aul in Mt. Vernon, New York on Friday. The funeral occurred at Mt. Vernon on Monday.

Richard Price was formerly a Winterset lumber merchant. He was a prominent republican for many years and was state senator from this district. He was defeated for re-nomination by Senator Kilburn, who died recently, at the famous Middle river convention after it had been deadlocked for two or three days. With his son, Ray, he one time owned the Winterset Reporter.

He went from Winterset to Denver after Mrs. Price separated from him and lost all his money. A year or two ago he suffered a paralytic stroke and was sent to Mt. Vernon to live with his son. He has been in a hospital ever since.

He is survived by his wife and Paul.

RICHARD PRICE IS CALLED BY DEATH

Was Former Member of Iowa Senate, Prominent in Business and Politics

A message from Paul Price of Mt. Vernon, N. Y., announced the death of his father, Richard Price on May 5th, burial taking place on May 8th at Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Price had suffered two strokes of paralysis while living in Denver, then was taken to the home of his son, Paul. Mr. Price had one hip broken in a fall a few months ago and was taken to the hospital where his death took place.

Richard Price was born in Freeport, Ohio in 1848, came to Iowa in 1861 with his parents, who located on a farm in Dallas county. As a lad, he worked on his father’s farm, then began to teach school. He was employed at Dexter in Getchell & Son’s lumber yard in 1869, two years later taking charge of the business in Earlham. After this, he was transferred to the branch business at Colfax. He came to Winterset in 1878 for Getchell, a year later becoming a partner with Fred Strong.

One son, Ray, died several years ago. Mrs. Price has been at Mt. Vernon, N. Y., for a year or more with her son Paul. The death of Mr. Price again calls to mind the famous senatorial contest between Adair and Madison counties as his opponent, L. M. Kilburn, passed away on March 9th, two months before Mr. Price’s death.
