Mrs. John Douglas died Wednesday, Jan. 2 at the home of her son James Douglas south of Van Meter.

Mary May Hazen, daughter of Emerson and Sarah Hazen, was born in Clayton county, Iowa May 2nd, 1862. When but three years old she came with her parents to Madison county where she lived almost seventy-five years.

On Nov. 17, 1887 she was united in marriage to John H. Douglas. To this union were born two sons, Jas. and Raymond. They also took into their home and love, a foster daughter whom they reared to womanhood.

Mr. Douglas passed away March 17, 1930. Mrs. Douglas is survived by two sons, James of Van Meter, Raymond of Wilton, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Swan of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the U.B. church conducted by the pastor the Rev. C. L. Windsor. Miss Mame Henry and Mrs. Hershel Trindle with Mrs. Gilbert F. Johnson as pianist furnished the music. The pall bearers were Willis Smith, Oscar Marquardt, Earl Newman, Chas. Ha----, George Gowins and Mr. Ryan. Burial was in the Union Chapel cemetery by the side of her husband.
