Page 3, Column 5Mahalath Gutshall, nee Snyder, was born in Harrison county, Ohio, May 22, 1823, and died in Dallas county, Iowa, Sept. 28, 1906. Her age was 83 years, 3 months and 6 days.
She came to Iowa in 1855 and has lived at the same place, 1 mile west of Booneville, 50 years and 11 months. She was married to Jacob Gutshall May 16, 1843. To these were born six children. The first born died at three years of age. The last born died in infancy. The four living children are Mrs. Lizzie Shambaugh of Madison county, Mrs. Ruth Grabill of Des Moines and Harry and George Gutshall of near Booneville. The husband, ninety years of age, survives her.
They have been helpers in the local church forty-eight years and have given many thousands of dollars to educational and other general church interests. Mother Gutshall attended the services of the church regularly until she was too weak. For about a year she has been an invalid and longed for the heavenly rest. She was a strong character and was decidedly religious. Her sun went down without a cloud. She will shine bright in the kingdom of God forever.
The funeral services were held on Sunday at Union Chapel with an immense crowd in attendance.
