John Morse Snider, pioneer resident of Dallas County, passed away at the Mingus Nursing Home in Des Moines early Sunday morning after a long illness. He was the fourth child of Abraham and Turzy Snider, born at Ionia, Ill., January 24th, 1870, coming to Iowa when a small lad where he lived with his parents until they passed away; then he still lived on the same farm, which he purchased after the death of his parents. He never married.

On the 9th day of March, 1946 he suffered a stroke which left him perfectly helpless. He was taken to the Dexter hospital where he remained for 31 days getting no better. He was placed in a Nursing home where he would get the best of care. His sister, Hannah Beane made regular calls at the Home to see him and in the last three weeks she could see he was failing rapidly, not knowing her at times.

He was a good patient at the Home, never complaining. The nurses said no matter how bad he suffered he was almost constantly under the doctor’s care. He leaves behind one brother, George L. Snider of McHenry, North Dakota; two sisters, Frances Mullins of Perry and Hannah Beane of Adel; two nieces and four great nieces, one nephew, besides a lot of distant relatives and friends.

His father and mother and two sisters preceded him in death. The only brother was unable to come to the funeral services on account of advanced age. Services were held at the Fisher Funeral Home in Adel, Tuesday, April 27th, 1948 at 2 p.m. Clergyman Rev. Floyd Newbrough and he was laid to rest beside his parents at Union Chapel cemetery.

Casket bearers were Carl Burgett, Leo Tracy, Pete Wright, Floyd Cain, Frank Holmes and Glenn Reeves.
