Daniel Baker, son of Joseph and Mary Baker, was born August 15, 1878 at Waterville, Kansas. After a very short illness he departed this life February 5, 1946, at the age of 67 years, 6 months and 10 days.

He was united in marriage to Lizzie Pritchard on June 1st, 1904. To this union eight girls and five boys were born. Dan, as he was called by all who knew him, was a member of the Methodist church; steward on the church board for several years, member of the Council, and for a great number of years he was custodian of our church. Our loss is God’s gain.

His death was preceded by that of one son, Martin Luther, and one granddaughter, Little Mary Ann Parkinson.

Besides his widow, those left to mourn his passing are his children, Mary and Betty of Denver, Colo., Sarah Parkinson of Denver, Colo; Joseph of Niagara Falls, New York, Dorothy Marquardt of DeSoto; Nellie Prohaska of Earlham, Lueta Baker of Dayton, Ohio; Robert of the United States Navy; John of DeSoto and Susie May, Madeline and Curtis Glenn at home; also twelve grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church with the pastor officiating. Burial was in the U.B. cemetery near Van Meter. The Fisher Funeral Service of Van Meter had charge of the rites.
