Vergene “Buck” McKibben was born February 6, 1904 at Holton, Kansas to Ed and Lena McKibben. He came to Dallas County as a child.

He was a World War II Veteran serving in Battery “A: 381 Field Artillery Battalion of the United States Army.

On March 11, 1946 he was united in marriage to Nola Chapman at Atchison, Kansas. They spent most of their life in the Adel area.

He was a self-employed welder. The past five years he has worked in City Parks and at the school in Dallas Center.

He died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines on May 14, 1980.

He is survived by his wife Nola, a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Hutchins and a son, Jack Chapman both of Adel, Iowa, three sisters, Mrs. Chloe Bartmess, Mrs. August Button and Mrs. Hazel Smith, all of Adel, Iowa.

Service was at Chamberlain-Fisher Funeral Home, Saturday, May 17, 1980 with Rev. Mervin Nelson officiating. Burial was in North McDonald Cemetery, Winterset, Iowa.
