Laura Anna Bernau Jurgensen, daughter of Wm. and Wilhelmina Bernau, was born in Jefferson Twp., Madison County, Iowa, on April 6, 1892, and departed this life at Winterset, Iowa on Thursday, Feb. 21, 1957. She brought her age to 64 years, 10 months and 15 days.

She was baptized in early infancy in the faith of the Lutheran Church by the Rev. L. von Schenk, and was also confirmed in this faith at the age of 14, the rite of confirmation being conferred by the Rev. C. Jobst. She was a faithful member of the same congregation, Trinity Lutheran of Van Meter, during her entire life.

She was united in holy matrimony on March 1, 1912 with Mr. Gustav H. Jurgensen of DeSoto, Ia. To this happy union 4 children were born, Manda Gattman of North Augusta, South Carolina, Nyle J. of Prole, Ia., and Monna Mitchell of Ankeny, Ia. Wilhelmina passed away in early infancy.

After their marriage they lived at first for a short time on a farm east of their present one northwest of DeSoto. They family occupied their present farm for 36 years.

Mrs. Jurgensen was bereft of her husband only a little over a year ago, his death occurring on Nov. 26, 1955.

After the loss of her husband she carried on as best she could with the farm work until November of last year, when it became necessary to remove her to the hospital. Although she suffered unbearingly during all this time, her faith and trust in her Lord and Saviour was never shaken.

Like her husband, she found great delight in the wonders of God’s nature. She often took time to admire a beautiful sunrise or sunset. This love for nature she also instilled in her children. Hard work was her by-word from early womanhood on until that day last November when she was compelled to submit to surgery.

There remain to survive her in addition to her 3 children, 5 grandchildren: Louis and Londa and Niki Jurgensen and Jeannine and Karen Gattman.

There also survive her 4 sisters and 1 brother: Ida Radke of Van Meter, Martha Clayton of Dallas Center, Lena Addy Allison of Des Moines, Hulda White of Winterset, and August Bernau of Bode.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harms and daughter of West Bend, Michael Haas, Madison, Wisc., and relatives from Clayton and Benton Counties were present at the funeral.

Transcriber’s note: Burial was made in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Madison County, Iowa.
