Page 3, Column 7John Hammer, son of James and Emma Hammer, was born at Swan, Oct. 7, 1882 and passed away June 25, 1963 at the Horton Nursing Home at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 18 days.
He had been a patient at the nursing home in Winterset since May 5, 1962.
He was untied in marriage to Minnie Adams of Swan, Jan. 5, 1905. To this union four children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters, one daughter, Vera Rodda, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Ralph of Des Moines, Robert of Massena and one daughter, Hilda Rodda of Adel. He is also survived by three brothers, James of Indianola, Frank of Paynton, Canada, and Jake of Bruno, Minn. Also 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He became a member of the Adel Methodist church in 1962.
