Funeral services were held last Wednesday at the Slininger Chapel in Jefferson for Willey Isaac Ganoe, former resident of this community and known to many of the older residents. The services were conducted by Rev. Arthur V. Long. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
Willey Isaac Ganoe, son of William and Sarah Bussey Ganoe, was born December 8, 1875, at Dawson, Iowa, and passed away January 21, 1951 near Jefferson, Iowa, at the age of 75 years, one month and 13 days.
His boyhood days were spent around Dawson, Iowa. When he was 16 years old, they moved to near Adel, Iowa, where his parents had purchased a farm.
On August 31, 1897, he was united in marriage to Mary Stanley. To this union were born four children Wilma, Elizabeth, Esther and Myron. After their marriage they lived around DeSoto, Adel, Ankeny and Newton.
Mrs. Ganoe passed away on December 16th, 1917.
On May 18, 1928, he was married to Inez Wolff at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. To this union were born seven children, Carl, Harvey, Earl, Donald, Loren and two girls dying in infancy.
They lived in Hastings, Nebr., Ill., and about 12 years ago came to Greene County, Iowa, where he has since lived.
Mr. Ganoe was a member of the Methodist church at Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Myron, dying at the age of 17 years; two daughters dying in infancy; 1 grandson; 1 brother and 1 sister.
Those surviving are his wife, Inez; five sons, Carl, Harvey, Earl, Donald and Loren all at home; three daughters, Mrs. Wilma Harvey of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Elizabeth Hall of Altoona, Iowa and Mrs. Esther Lair of Denver, Colo.; 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Ray Cornahan of West Des Moines, Iowa, other relatives and many friends.
